It's not that I lack for things to spend money on. I have a ton of things that I'm interested in and try to do on a regular basis. In the summer the boat takes up most of the time, so most of these things get done on rainy days or the winter.

I'm an avid kite flyer. I try to fly on a regular basis, but in reality, I only get out a few times a year.

Mike and I did Model Rocket for a while, but once he got out of school, the interest waned. Dave and I've done some of the Estes kits.

Most of the other things are more crafts than anything else. When the kids were growing up we tried a lot of different crafts. One big plus is that all of them have great artistic skills. Mike is the best detail painter, but the three girls are very talented.

Gimp or lanyard is something that we've all done. Everyone has made things and given them as gifts. The projects are a good thing on trips since they are pretty small. Pony Beads are a follow on to gimp. We started out with the pre-made kits, but soon made our own shapes and creatures.

We did a huge number of project with a paint product called Magic Dip. It is an oil based paint that floats on the surface of the water. You dip the item through the paint into the water. The paint then sticks to the item, creating interesting patterns. DYI example

Origami was a huge activity for about a year. We made all types of animals, cups, hats, etc. My favorite is the jumping frog from a business card.

Painted wood

A huge number of projects are painted wood or cardboard items. One of my favorites was made by Pam. It is the top section of a stockade fence slat, a wooden ball, and a wood mustache. Pam turned it into a wizard. Very cool.

Another favorite is the key rack for the hall. At an old Dover Day festival there was a pile of wood scraps from a local builder. Jen took some of these and created a really nice key rack / shelf combination.

Toys

We've has some cool toys like the Quadro construction set. Radio controlled toys are a favorite.

Flowers

One of the easiest things to make is flower arrangements using dried or plastic flowers. One place we go to is the Flower And Craft Warehouse in Blue Ball, PA. It has everything you could ever need.
